Some time ago (around 2004? 2005?) one of the local "news oracles" in San Diego pulled a similar stunt with the BNSF. Best I can remember in that event is that they even called in the San Diego PD to come along (I guess so they could make it "legitimate" tresspassing) and found a running motor tied down nearest the public street. The newsies and the cops all went on board and started playing with the controls trying to get the motor to move. All to no avail, of course, but the footage on tape looked excellent on the 11 o'clock news :-)

Well, BNSF had the last laugh. Not only did they threaten federal charges against both the TV station AND the City of San Diego, they all were warned during a "face to face" meeting with the guilty parties that another such occurance would result in some REAL serious stuff should similar happen again.

I guess what was said to all concerned was sufficient to stop this sort of nonsense as all has been quiet down there since. Most likely we will see a similar response in the PNW division.

Any San Diego TY&E on here remember the complete story?
