Coal and Iron ore are currently being exported through Port of Stockton and some ore thru Richmond CA. 3 ore trains per week at Stockton and 1 coal and 2 ore trains to top off the ship at Richmond after it leaves Stockton to get the ship to full capacity. These moves started in ?November of 2010 and have gronw ever since.
This move was only made possible by two shortlines the CCT and Richmond Pacific teaming up with UP to make this move work. It also means the vessel has to make two stop to load to full capacity.
Both Port Stockton and Richmond are expanding and adding track and equipment to handle bulk mineral exports. so far no NIBYS, ECO Freeks and City officals have complained.
If all goes well Port Stockton is looking at up to 12 trains per week of ore and coal and Richamond 5 trains a week.
So never say never on coal or ore exports out of Califorina
