The paint job tells us little about the quality of the mechanical preservation/restoration work. The fact that 1624 works is a tribute to the work of the museum's volunteers. (I last saw it work on Santa Monica Blvd. in the late 1950s.) I hope that when it is painted it receives the care it deserves - lots of careful prep work and then Awlgrip Paint.
