Get used to it.
We're so very fortunate that we haven't had a suicide bombing in a public place or a train attacked in the US like they've had in Spain or other countries. If that ever happens the public would demand even more stringinent, invasive and costly security screenings that could include racial profiling and airport style security at najor stations.
Trains, subways and buses are an easy target for terrorists.
Now that we have tighter airport security I'm pretty sure that some people who want to harm our country have probably done the same thing the 9 11 terrorists did....Take "dry run" trips on trains and look for and find flaws in the system.
The random TSA checks may be flawed but thats about all we have... Amtrak police can't guard every train and station 24/7. The cost would be astronomical. Local police are stretched too thin to protect train stations and using low paid poorly trained private security guards would also be ineffective and probably offensive if they got to aggressive.
Greyhound has private security at major stations Their main job seems to be keeping homeless people from using the restrooms.
