The first time I rode in the 1617 I was amazed at its power. For a 1500 HP loco you would swear it had 3000 HP after riding in it. When I had my first ride the EWG was taking cement to the air force base for the new runways. We did double the 3% percent grade from the main into the siding where the unloaders were and the 1617 never slipped a wheel. Now she did not do it herself but I think the 375 was working harder.
