If it is headed for the NWP, thankfully it will not receive black widow paint. None of NWP Co.s units will receive black widow. SP scarlet and grey with SP style "Northwestern Pacific" on the long hood with block "NWP" on the nose is the paint scheme that NWP Co. will paint any units they acquire. The current operators of NWP Co. don't want to be confused or associated in any way with John Darling's "NWPY" of the late 1990's with their black widow scheme.
If the 439 does end up in work train service on the NWP, it will probably still wear its Tacoma Eastern paint. The unit would be on lease and no one has $40,000 or so to paint a lease unit in work train service.
Personally, I'm glad that there won't be anymore black widow painted units. Black widow can't hold a candle to scarlet and grew IMHO and SP's SD9's spent most of their lives in scarlet and grey.
