Is a Set of Surfliner Cars Out of Service?

Yesterday evening I caught this set of single deck cars at San Jaun Capistrano. The first shot is the picture I was trying to get with the Mission Basilica Church Tower in the background. Click here.

Here's two more shots of the train, click here and here. Cascade Non-powered Cab Unit 90230 was on the rear.

A friend caught the same set a couple days before at Fullerton on train 579.
