Once heard of a real tree on the tracks back when ESPEE was running the NWP. A SD9 going down Ridge hit a 40ft. Doug Fir that was across the tracks, going downhill into Redwood Valley. By the time they stopped, all but about 12ft. of the trunk had broken off along the way! That 12ft. of tree had to then be removed, as it was lodged on the front of the SD9!
