The most common name for the palm species being referred to is California fan palm;
the scientific name is Washingtonia filifera.

The Shafter depot was moved about half a mile north of its original location in order to
become a museum. No palm trees show up near the depot in photos taken at its old location.

(by the way, there is no apostrophe in "trees" as used in the initial post. This is
a simple plural word, just like the the words "grounds," "stations" and "Easterners" used
in the initial post)
