Espee and Palm tree's question?

Can anyone confirm what I've been lead to believe that when SP built stations here in California, I suppose back in the late 1800's, maybe early 1900's, that they would plant Palm tree's with in the grounds of said stations, so as to show a "Paradise" like feeling to in coming Easterners? Most notable in the Sacramento and San Joaquin Valley's?
