The Port actually filed a feeder line application as a result of CORP's embargo of most of the line. The STB determined that CORP could not issue an indefinate embrago, so CORP filed for abandonment. The STB granted the abandonment, subject to the Port of Coos Bay having the right to buy the line for net salvage value.
Using a variety of federal and state grants, the Port of Coos Bay bought the line and has slowly been doing work on it. It just reopened due to pressure from shippers, but the major rehab is yet to be done. Speed limit is currently 10 mph, and the large swing bridge over Coos Bay is still out of service pending repairs.
ARG Transportation has the contract to operate the line and do the regular inspections and maintenance. ARG uses the name Coos Bay Rail Link as does the Port of Coos Bay for the railroad.
