Fast enough trains?

The Financial Times says they don't want their content published to the Web, so I guess I can't paste in a link here. However, if you go to ft.com, look for their columnist Harry Eyres, and look for his column from last weekend, he has some interesting observations on this obsession to run faster and faster trains and cut more and more time off our journeys. Not exactly an issue in the US, but European and Asian rail builders might think about it.

The photo at the head of the column is a nice view of a country railway station in Italy. Train photography without trains.
