Precisely. What Palmdale genuinely needs is an open source, standard gauge, ocs BART. Palmdale is not on the north-south hsr route. It is that simple.

It is just nutty to relegate hsr to a back of town freight route in the boonies and then make it incompatible with freight. Way underutilized with a terrible cost-benefit ratio. MTC did a cost benefit on the Transbay Terminal Tunnel and concluded it was the worst of any project around. But the Grand DeTour thru Tehachapi ranks even lower imho.

The best thing you could say for it is that the San Francisco Chief could be restored. And the CHSRA is totally oblivious to that possibility.
