Portland & Western shut the Dawson branch down three or four years ago now. The branch simply did not generate enough revenue to cover its costs, and the physical plant needed a lot of work that the revenues did not justify. Vennel Farms (sp?) purchased the first five or six miles running south out of Corvallis, then hired the Albany & Eastern to operate it for them. P&W and UP are currently jointly seeking abandonment of the line beyond the end of Vennel Farms ownership.

The black widow geep is still around, last I was aware it was the Eugene switcher, but that may have changed.
