Mike's post below and today's newsline gets me thinking. Does Alameda county still own the ex-SP line between Niles and the county line east of Livermore? If so does Stanslaus county own the remainder into the Tracy area?

Could they not relay the rail and require UP to connect with them as UP is a common carrier, or connect with the Cal Northern to Crows Landing (is assume the old west vally line to Los Banos)?

Just a thought.
