New Orleans trolleys

I just got back from New Orleans where I had the opportunity to ride all 3 of the existing streetcar lines. It was great to ride a classic trolley still serving the function for which it was originally intended.

I have a question. The St. Charles line uses short green cars which I am told are original. The Canal Street and Riverfront lines use longer red cars. Can anyone tell me where these came from? They do not look new so I am guessing they were purchased second hand from somewhere. Europe?

If you are considering a trip to the Big Easy I have one suggestion. Ride the Canal Street line. Those cars are air conditioned.
