Deforestation at the Sacramento Depot

As part of the "rehabilitation" of the former SP Sacramento station by the city (which currently seems more like destruction), most of the trees in front of the depot along I Street were cut down on Wednesday. I can't vouch for it, but I had always heard that these palm, redwood, pine, and citrus trees were planted by the SP long ago to convey the California ambiance to arriving passengers as they departed the station. As of last night, only one palm and one pine remained standing.
