Both were originally purchased by the Texas-Mexican Railway.
They then went to Helm leasing and various railroads leased them including the Vermont Railways, which painted the 168. They also were both used on the Arizona-California, where the 169 received a nose decal.
To clarify, BNSf did not purchase them, rather they traded four SWs #3408/3446/3452/3454 for the two GPs.

The 169 was wrecked a week after it arrived in Pasco, Wa and finally, Five months later the unit has left the area, reported for rebuilding at Topeka.
