Last report out of that country I've heard indicated the GP49 was down with bad wheels, and that the Lakeview shop got the #700 (GP-7) back up and running. However, that was at least several months ago and may have changed. Lake Railroad was running about one round trip each week, going from Perez to Lakeview one day and then back to Perez the next. UP ran a corresponding run out of Klamath Falls to effect interchange.

They presently have two shippers in Lakeview, Cornerstone Minerals (ships bulk perlite) and Fremont Lumber Company (or some variation on that), which is a division of the Collins Pine Company (lumber and woodchips). Cornerstone has a small trackmobile used to switch their facility. In addition to the Lake Country traffic, UP may also serve another mineral loadout at Perez, plus some other shippers between there and K-Falls.

Only a few traces of the Modoc Northern remain...the #700 may still be painted for them (probably is), while the MN motive power and caboose still sit at Tule Lake and one very dead GE remains tucked into the west end of the Canby siding.
