I will again voice my disappointment with the Oregon Department of Transportation, operator of the Lewis & Clark Explorer 3-year project, for not producing a post project report outlining what all was learned during the operation celebrating the Lewis & Clark journey.
It is my understanding that the project did not break even and was bailed out by selling the RDC units to the Wallowa-Union Railroad who used Connect Oregon funds to make the purchase.
One of the problems with this service was I understand the lack of support from the Astoria business community. 3 or 4 hour day visits didn't generate a whole lot of community revenue.
With the higher speed rail between Linnton and Port Westward, the trip would be quicker today if the line was open beyond Wauna. It is a very scenic trip and Astoria is a great city to visit.
