Most of the locomotives were sold or given to interested parties. The rolling stock was given to family members for souvenirs. Most of the accessories including the immaculate 55-inch turntable and pit were chucked into the old Oakland dump near the Alameda Golf course.
His oldest 4-6-2 SP Pacific (built in 1929) is in my posession. Vic sold it to a neighbor in 1952 for *** $ 75.00 *** ... Can you believe THAT ?
Over the many years, I traced it through various ownerships and locales. Finally found an International collector who owned it and would not sell it to anyone for any reason.
After almost ten years of "pleading" and "letter writing" and coughing up some $ 2000.00, this guy let me have it back in August--1992. So, after some FORTY years, the STAR of that YouTube clip (2422) is back in the Shattock family... Amazing, don't you think ??
