Many Siskiyou County towns like Montague were established and grew in large part because of their proximity to the Siskiyou Line. A new federal grant will fund a project to repair and reopen the line.
Quote:
Siskiyou Daily
The Siskiyou Line, closed since 2008, was once an essential part of the local infrastructure system, allowing local timber companies like Roseburg Forest Products and Timber Products, as well as many others, to ship their products economically and efficiently to markets outside of the region.
According to District 1 County Supervisor Jim Cook, the Siskiyou Economic Development Council (EDC), the cities of Yreka, Montague and Weed, their chambers of commerce, as well as the board of supervisors, were essential components in the effort, on the California side of the line.
He said Siskiyou County owes a lot to the EDC for their role as facilitators, organizers and constant advocates in the process. He added that opening the Siskiyou Line will have strong ripple effects across the entire Siskiyou County economy by supporting and creating jobs and increasing revenue and opportunity.
