Looked at the pics, this was the second time this particluar fiasco had taken place.
Firs time was with Balwdwin locos, a cab and a "B" unit style, both going into the Brazos river.
For those who would like to see it, there is a B&W trailer on the video "Baldwins on the Southern Pacific."
The hoggy's name who who put them in the drink, his last name was Pinelli. The SP restricted him to yard duty, he earned the nickname of "Admiral Pinelli, the submarine commander."
Was told this happend in the mid fifties or so.
It was a cab hop to Schellville, he had the bail locked down on the 2a independent lever with a fusesee cap. When he seen the bridge was open, he applied the emergency brakes, but to no avail. the only brakes that applied were on the caboose.
So, into the drink the engines went.
In the video you can watch the cranes recovering the locos, it is worth the look-see.
