The petition to abandon was filed in 2004 and only included about two thirds of a mile of track from N. Duncan Road to end of track. I believe this was due to expansion of Linden High School and the rebuilding of Front Street. Permission to abandon was quickly granted. In that petitiion, the ST&E stated the line had not been used since 1989. I was under the impression that the last train all the way to Linden was the special passenger train to the Linden Cherry festival. Don't remember the exact date, but it had to be late 70's/early 80's time frame. An Alco and two ex-Santa Fe coaches all the way to the end. There were no active shippers in Linden at that time and hadn't been for several years. When I was last up there the track was still in place all the way to Duncan road, although disappearing into the ground.
