"According to the Center for Defense Information, the estimated cost of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan will reach $1.29 trillion by the end of fiscal year 2011." The budgeted amount for 2011 was $170 Billion. --Infoplease

Amtrak asked for 2.6 billion of funding for 2011. -- Amtrak

So, for the cost of one year of the war(s), Amtrak could be financed for 65 years. Or, Amtrak costs about six days of the war.
