So Doyle is restoring a former Santa Fe / Delaware & Hudson / Nacional de Mexico ( or was it FCP ??? ) Alco PA as a Nickel Plate engine that he remembers from his youth. BIG DEAL !!! This ain't the Concours de Elegance folks. No 100 point restorations here. In a time when we drool over a CN F - Unit painted Espee Black Widow, and a CB & Q steamer painted for Grand Canyon RR -- What's the Big Deal ???
Doyle was willing to spend his money & time to retreive the engine from a certain death in Mexico. He can do what he wants to with it, even if that means painting it Pink with Purple Polka Dots !!! I will assume that those who object to a Nickel Plate Alco, will NOT be at trackside when it runs. Right ???
BTW -- Doyle has been mindful enough of the PA's heritage, to save the original Santa Fe numberboards just in case ...
