First off, people make mistakes, especially young people. I don't see how anyone could reply so coldly and callously.
As for the intoxication, that might not have been the case--in the orthodox sense that is. I've seen people sit upon, in the middle of, or ACROSS the rails whilst texting--and that's on a stretch of tangent track with clear view of a block signal, too! By this logic, you could say I've "saved lives" by actually stepping up and being two steps away from pulling them off the tracks!
And this was--of all places--under a bridge, precluding the crew from seeing her and providing adequate warning, especially at night. I've ridden that line time and time again, and if my memory serves correct the bridge is in the middle of a slight curve.
The "reaching back to her purse" part points towards texting. As much as people have the right to quick, efficient technology...they need to know WHAT contexts to use it in. Texting creates inattentiveness, tresspassing is a surefire sign of complacency...
What do we get when we stick these two together, gentlemen? Haphazard behavior. We're all guilty of it as adolescents to some magnitude, and let he who has not been blatantly reckless in their adolescence hurl the first disparaging post.
