A flight instructor friend of mine has a good story of how one of his buddies had an engine failure and landed safely on a freeway without incident. They got out of the plane to move it to the side of the road when a car smashes into the plane and seriously injures both pilots. The driver's reason for not slowing down: "I saw it but didn't recognize what was in front of me, so I didn't stop."
