AAR Rule 260 - Railroad reporting numbers / ACI sign

After reading yesterdays news about the ACI KarTrak technology I decided to grab my ACI sign and take a closer look at it. after receiving it from a friend of mine about 25 years ago. When I got it it was covered in dust and dirt and I immediately took it and began a restoration of it with new black paint, cleaned the reflective strips, then clear coated it.

After digging it up, looking at it, getting the numbers off it, this evening I decided to see if I could find any reference to what railroad it came off of.

According to a few sites that referenced how to read these from the bottom up, the digits show that:

0 - equipment code
310 - owner of the equipment (This is the AAR code)

I have searched online for who "310" in a file called OT-10.pdf from www.railinc.com and all I can find is "GWI Switching Services, L.P. GWSW". Best guess is this is Genesee & Wyoming Incorporated, or this is what it once was called.

However I am not convinced that the now known "GWI" was around back in 1975 when the older ACI bar coding technology was abandoned. I believe that the code was reissued to GWI from another company who is now history.

Does anyone out there have any references to what AAR Code 260 number 310 would be relating to?
