Would anyone care to discuss the practicality of magnetic levitation for trains? I see a problem of making it fail-safe. If the levitation power fails, what happens? I have heard that systems that use magnetic levitation still need wheels that will settle or drop onto rails if the levitation power fails. The speed of 310 miles-per-hour would be awfully fast to have a levitation failure and have the vehicle drop onto a guideway and skid. I seriously want to know how this kind of failure can be managed. Please excuse any spelling errors. I thought this board had a spell checker feature, but I cannot get it to work.
