Thanks for the discussion & the description of how the turbo works. I had seen some general descriptions of that but not as clear as yours. That obviously eliminates "turbo lag" too. Presumably GEs and Alcos don't have that feature (mechanical drive at low engine speeds), contributing to the black smoke clouds that are common when they're throttled-up quickly?
