A sad story. I think it's always a good idea to have rules in place. Surfers (I think) have a rule that you never turn your back on the waves if you are near them. Automobile race marshals have a rule that you never turn your back on the track when a race is in progress. I's obvious that RR photographers should follow the rule of: Never compose a picture in your camera while standing on the tracks. Stand on the tracks if you like to look around and check out the angles, but when you put eye to camera you must be standing in the clear.
