The world according to these delusional BANANA"S is awful, the evil trucks and trains are bad, it is all a big conspiracy by evil forces, or the @#$%& himself, and if we do anything at all about anything, we will surely fail and it probably will kill us all, and be the end of mankind. Or, at the very least, anything we do will result in the immediate irreversable demise of the cute furry creature of the moment.......?
All change is evil is the mantra of the BANANA's. Usuallly this is based on irrational emotional arguments, used to bring a mob to a frothing, and yes, dare I say it, "foaming", fevered pitch, ready to lynch anyone who may disagree, or to burn the appropriate witch responsible for whatever the percieved evil is.
This mob of ever vigilant defenders of ignorance and fear will rant about about how the evil train, truck, auto, trolley, power lines, horse trail, bikeway, soccer fields, or bad baseball diamonds, (or jsut "fill in" appropriate boogy man here) will do unspeakable harm. These BANANA's will bleat about how just about anything that might be done will ruin the neighborhood, destroy nature, kill cute furry critters, bring imminent death and destruction to our children and the old, and otherwise likely cause the end of mankinnd. Thus, we must prevent any action of any kind, which would bring any kind of change, for any reason, ever, to their dismal lives.
I just spent some quality time with idiots like these at the Pasadena Council meeting last week on the 710 tunnel issue. This week I see that the usual suspects are down complaining about the evil trains "causing" all of the suicides on the Blue Line at MTA. The logic must be that the Evil Train is at fault for these suicidal tendencies, of course! Maybe, the very presence of an Evil Train caused a BANANA to become depressed as to end it all? Next week is Christmas so there will be a one week break on this kind of stupid for the rest of this year.
These loons, lemmings, and luddites have not a clue how the beer or toilet paper gets to the store, and, in any case, want it stopped immediately!
There are plenty of awful real things out there that are doing awful things to people and our environment. But, with these simplistic fearful BANANA's, it's a lot of real work, and just not that sexy, to go help real people with real complex or serious problems.
These real issues and possible real solutions often require subtle and sophisticated solutions, tradeoff and compromise, which may require some healthy skepticism, some trust, a little wisdom, and a lot of patience to deal with. That would require BNANANA's to have to adopt a calm thoughtful state of mind, which is an anathema to them. So these BANANA's typically gather in a large crowds, find some evil conspiracy to blame for any change of any kind, and to vent their usually misplaced frustrations in pointless rage, which always solves our real problems......?
Then there are the sleazier brands of politicians, who often know better, or should, and in spite of that, pander to these folks ignorance and fear, because the ignorant and fearful are so much more easily manipulated. It matters little if the fear and ignorance bleated is about a Kenyan Presidential conspiracy, or SMART and the evil BART conspiracy, both require a full shutdown of the working of the frontal lobes, and dependence entirely on the lymbic system.
But, after these BANANA's and those who pander to them get there way, when the beer and toilet paper don't show up anymore, these folks, and all of the rest of us, will really have something to actually @#$%& about, won't we?
What do BANANA's really want? Evil Thomas must be stopped! Evil Christmas Train must be stopped! All progress, all actions, all fun, all thinking, must be stopped, because it is all just too dangerous to allow!
