GE Transportation has unveiled the prototype for its next Evolution Series locomotive that the company said will decrease constituent emissions by more than 70 percent. GE said it expects that the locomotive will meet the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Tier 4 emission standards. Interestingly, GE said it will meet Tier 4, “with technological advancements versus costly alternatives, which require special exhaust additives and infrastructure investments.” Read urea-based SCR.
