GIS is all the Rage

Rather ignored in the mainstream press, GIS (Geographical Information Systems,) is revolutionizing
the way any land based assets get managed. Bruce Kelly is right in that the base maps used are coming from all kinds of existing sources. It is the overlays that tie into databases that make the difference. These use a lot of Java and other scripting languages to do all of the heavy data lifting and map generation.
