Huell was an a gift to California, a true inspiration who brought to life places and experiences others would otherwise know nothing about.
He did a show on the Delta Queen Riverboat, which formerly worked the Sacramento River. Therein, he interviewed a good friend, John Burns, whose father, Jim Burns, was Chief Engineer of the California Transportation Company. It was Jim who had the hulls built and floated over from Scottland. Huell's interview of "Burns", as we knew him, was fantastic. You could tell Huell really enjoyed talking with old Burns about the history of the ships, since Burns worked as a fireman on the river as a kid. Burns later passed away at the age of 91. He too was a rail buff and donated an ancient fly belt drill press, capable of unusually low rpm's, to the outfit at Niles Canyon.
Among other of my favorite shows: Fern Canyon; Trees of Mystery; all the Gold Country shows. Loved the musical scores to his show as well. He is an institution who will be missed.
