One of the local Monterey county wineries wanted to install a wind machine for their power on the flatland in the valley south of Salinas. The environmental world went batshit because way up in the Ventana wilderness reside the condors who are endangered and recovering-----------they NEVER come down into the valley area but you know, some poor old elderly demented condor might get confused and wander down and get chopped up by the evil wind machine. So----permit denied. Sigh.

PS---as an aside, I note that when Santa Clara County put up a new medical/mentalhealth facility in Gilroy the parking lot is entirely covered with solar panels. So is the parking lot at Gunderson high school in south San Jose. Makes lots of sense.
