Gilluly, Utah, July 1974 D&RGW #5771

July 1974, the only words in the US vocabulary seemed to be Watergate and Nixon but this July morning on Soldier Summit in Utah, the only words seemed to be the chanting of three EMD 567 prime movers as F9 #5771 and two "B" units climbed Eastward at Gilluly. The Rio Grande had elected to not join Railpax (as Amtrak was first known) and was required to keep its Rio Grande Zephyr between Salt Lake and Denver in operation. A few short days after this was taken, Nixon resigned and flew off the California.
