Speaking of flooding ( and the Mudslide that caused same ) ,I was fortunate ( if you could consider it as such ) to be onboard the very last RGZ to make it through Thistle. After waiting somewhere East of Thistle for an E/B Coal MTYs, we inched along up & over the mudslide that was pushing the track up from underneath. My girlfriend & I watched it all from the Dome - Obs. The next day we arrived back at the DRGW station in SLC for the return to Denver, only to find our train still facing North. Only passengers ticketed through to Denver were allowed to board; all others had to ride the chartered bus as the RGZ detoured home over Ewe Pee. Although I know I was lucky in railfan terms, I've always felt I missed out by not riding down the Front Range back to Denver.
