Genset's squirrel story reminds of watching a small owl collide with an SP EB at Ontario, California one night when I was working at a feed mill there. This was still back in Gyralite days, and I noticed this owl fluttering above the tracks at a perilously low level. The owl struck the top of the lead cab, and then tumbled along the top of the unit, and then fell down on the ballast. I ran out, sure I would be finding a dead owl. I picked it up and carried it inside, the owl was still alive, but stunned. I put in a small box. I just happened to be dating a woman who helped run a raptor rehab center in Claremont. She and two birder friends came down to my work within an hour.
By this time, the owl had revived. My friends identified the owl as a juvenile Burrowing Owl, and checked it for injury. It was declared uninjured and we then released it, and it flew off.
