The long hood forward control stand location is clearly apparent in the floor. I have always wondered if 1617 had dual controls or had been long hood forward. Since the snowplow is STILL on the long hood end (see the first picture), I had assumed that it was built as a long hood forward unit. It was rebuilt at West Burlington in the 1970's after the BN merger and I assumed that this was when the short hood was chopped and made the front end. I have never been able to come up with pictures of 1617 as CB&Q 261.

It was probably because of this rebuild that it has survived so long and remains in relatively good condition for its age.
