Just spent four days driving around LA, Orange, and San Diego Counties and everything I saw was under $4.30 for regular. Of course, there may be some stations price-gouging. Bear in mind that California gasoline is a different mixture than the rest of the country, so it costs more. Up in Oakland, there's a Shell station at 7th & Market that always charges about .30/gallon more than everybody else, but I've never seen them hit $5.00.
