People who work for companies like Renzenberger and other such companies find cell phones invaluable for communicating with crews about where to meet the power and transport crew members as needed and other similar functions. This was and should be limited to strictly Company Business. Cell phones make it easier for crews and the drivers in this situation. Renzenberger drivers have their own RR frequency with which they communicate with yardmasters or trainmasters when dispatched on an errand but this is not the Road Channel to talk directly to crew members on the power or the ground. So the cell phones fulfill a useful purpose but without the useless chit chat aspect of typical cell phone usage. I believe Renzenberger supplies special cell phones for that use but since the Chatsworth incident/tragedy things may have changed. Would appreciate being made current if policies have changed.
