I presume that the stonework is erosion control. The construction equipment might be just maintenance of way - I'm not sure.

I wasn't shooting from the crest of the ridge that the narrows runs through. You don't want to be on the top, because it has a rounded edge. You want to be on a ledge to the north (Victorville side) of the top, which has much more of a square edge, and which sticks out closer to the tracks than the top does, so that you can see past the top of the ridge and clear to Frost.

If you go there, be careful. You're on the edge of a cliff, and there's a lot of gusty wind. Also watch for rattlesnakes, and be careful of your footing as you climb.
