You are correct Tom, and upon further research found the following.
I was certain that the trip was more recent, but the trip was made by Queen Elizabeth and Prince Phillip in 1951. It was a 34 day visit, and travel was done by train for most of the long distances. They had visited 70 communities and travelled some almost 15,000 miles in Canada. About half of Canada's population at the time (14 million population total) got to see them. Still new to the life as a Queen, Elizabeth seemed a little clumsy and nervous by some news reporters and civilians- a distant speculation of what the Queen would seem like by the people who got to see her.
