A zillion years ago, every elevator was staffed with a human elevator operator, frequently a large muscular gentleman. No one would dare relieve himself in the elevator then.

If this elevator is suffering this problem, why not hire an operator? I'm serious. If they worked out the repair and maintenance costs they would be saving, the idea might even pencil out, and it would certainly improve the travel experience for the users.
