"Ed" was Ed Churka, who owned the old NWP caboose 13 and a wooden box car. Don't know what happened to the box, but the caboose was moved to Sebastapol in 2000 or 2001 for restoration, which I believe has taken place. City of Pleasanton, at that time, indeed didn't want the trains coming downtown, which seemed like a pretty good idea at the time (and still does). Trains wouldn't interfere with weekday hustle and bustle ... the old SP right-of-way became a parking lot near the old depot.
