Ride Behind a 1927 Santa Fe Steam Locomotive to San Bernardino Railroad Days

On April 27th and 28th, a steam powered excursion train will be operated to San Bernardino RR Days, sponsored by the San Bernardino History & Railroad Museum. The steam special will be operated from Los Angeles to San Bernardino on Saturday April 27th, departing Los Angeles 1000am, over the Metrolink San Gabriel Subdivision. The train will return Sunday April 28th, departing 300pm, from San Bernardino. The train will consist of five cars: Former CN Business Car "Tioga Pass," built in 1959. Former SP club lounge NO. 2981, "Overland Trail," built in 1949. Former Santa Fe lounge car "Acoma" built in 1937 for the "Super Chief." An Amtrak chair car, either Amfleet or Horizon Fleet. Former CP baggage car 4210, "Pony Express," built in 1941, now rebuilt into a club lounge car. A Metrolink diesel will proved H.E.P. behind former Santa Fe Steam Locomotive 3751.

Ticket Prices are: First Class $115 for "Tioga Pass" and "Pony Express." Regular Class $105 for the "Acoma" and "Overland Trail" lounge cars. Coach Class is $70 in the Amtrak chair car.

Admission to San Bernardino Railroad Days is FREE

The San Bernardino History & Railroad Museum, the San Bernardino Historical & Pioneer Society, and the BNSF will host San Bernardino Railroad Days April 27th and 28th, at the historic Santa Fe San Bernardino Depot, at 1170 W. Third Street, San Bernardino. Railroad Days displays will include new BNSF locomotives, passenger cars, Santa Fe Steam Locomotive No. 3751, BNSF Signal Dept, Maintenance of Way, Operation Lifesaver, BNSF Police. There will also be historic fire apparatus and vehicles. There will be model railroads, the Orange Empire Railway Museum's Harvey Girls, Women in Railroading, National Assn of Retired and Veteran Railroad Employees, Pacific Railroad Society, Railway & Locomotive Historical Society and more. www.sbdepotmuseum.com

Tickets for the excursion are being sold now on a first come, first served basis. There are no half fares, or discounted fares. All sales are final, no refunds or exchanges. If you mail order your tickets, using the form provided on the website, please indicate your second and third choices, in case your first choice is sold out. All tickets include one way Metrolink fare on the Metrolink San Bernardino Line, so that passengers can get to/from Los Angeles and San Bernardino. The steam special will operate only one way, on each day, with no intermediate stops to board or discharge passengers.

Due to the historic nature of the private passenger cars, there will be no disabled or wheelchair accommodations. All passengers must be ambulatory, and be capable of climbing narrow, steep stairs, on the historic passenger equipment. Certified service animals will be permitted, by advance notice only. There will be no luggage service. No strollers or bicycles permitted. Passengers must wear sturdy shoes. Passengers are encouraged to use restrooms prior to boarding the train, as there are limited restrooms available on the train. No beverage coolers will be allowed on the train. Snacks and beverages will be available on the train.
