The coal dust issue is what got me departed from being a supporter of the Friends of the Columbia River Gorge. They chose to ignore the October 2011 BNSF order requiring the before mention coating on loaded coal cars that reduces coal dust loss by more than 85%.

A new wrinkle that I haven't heard discussed is what drains off loaded cars during rain storms during transit. This question came up in conversation with a Mayor of a city in the Gorge recently. Has there been any studies on this?

Covering coal cars is an interesting question....why doesn't this get any traction? Anyone else remember the uncovered chip cars and the "new" tarping process? Arlen
