We are natives of San Jose and relocated to Prunedale just 8 miles north of downtown Salinas 14 years ago. We have been docents at the National Steinbeck Center in the hub of downtown "Old Town" Salinas and I promise you that in addition to a few good Mexican restaurants, there are other reasons to visit Salinas, the National Steinbeck center being among the first reason. The Center is just 2 blocks from the railroad tracks and station and next to the station is a display of old SP rr loco and rolling stock and in the old REA building is the Salinas Valley model railroad group and their very well done layout. Try us----------------you might be very surprised and like it!! :-)
